Remy Butler Rémy BUTLER started his own practice in 1977, after a diploma at the Beaux Arts in Paris in 1973 and a Master of Urban Planning at the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in 1975.
His work is oriented in three main directions : public building, urban planning, state consulting and teaching.
TEACHING - CONSULTING
Remy BUTLER has been personnally appointed since 1984 as a consultant for the French Government, first to the Province of Savoy, then in charge of the Winter Olympic Games in Albertville in 1992. He has been consultant for the Roads and Bridges State Department and he is now consultant in the Pyrenees District. He has been sollicited for many jurys, teaches regularly urban planning at the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussees and has been nominated Professor of Architecture in 1994.
URBAN DESIGN AND MASTER PLANNING
Together with his practice, Remy BUTLER devoted reconsideration to urban planning, which he teached in Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussees since 1978.
He was called by the towns of Grenoble, Rouen and Nancy to define their urban development. His office is in charge of the major project of Stanislas-Meurthe in Nancy, redeveloping three millions acres.
He has been invited to work on three major Paris hospital master plans : Pitie-Salpetriaire, Saint-Antoine, Beaujon, and to reorganize the Fresnes Prisons for the Ministry of Justice.
PUBLIC BUILDING
His contribution to public building in France and abroad is widely recognized and most of his buildings has been published in French and international architectural press, together with awards.
He is a member of the French Academy of Architecture.
His office participated to most of the national competitions for public buildings in France, since the eighties. Among them, hospital building is a recurrent theme : remodeling of some of the Paris hospitals and master planning. Competition for hospital in Nice, Bourges, Caen, Lille, Lyon, Saint-Dié and Rennes and many projects abroad, including the Djakarta Oncological Hospital.
University and educational building is a second main category of his practice, with a completion of the University of Calais and Evry, gymnasium in Nancy and many projects in France.
